HAMMERHEAD provided 16 visual effects shots used throughout Blue Crush. These face replacements created the illusion that the film's star, Kate Bosworth, was surfing the half pipe. A specialized water unit, shooting expert Rochelle Ballard surfing, captured the plates. After appropriate footage was selected, Kate was photographed with similar lighting conditions. Her images were mapped onto a digitally scanned model of her face. This 3D element was then tracked and integrated back into the live action to create the final composite.
