Hammerhead Productions created roughly 150 shots in the "Bridge Race"
sequence of 2 Fast 2 Furious. This work was supervised by Mike Wassel
for the production and Thad Beier for Hammerhead. The shots were essentially used to
place the actors into the race. Like the work Hammerhead produced for
The Fast and the Furious (2001), background plates of the streets were shot,
then later, foreground elements of the actors in their cars were shot against a green screen.
These backgrounds were tracked into place and composited behind the actors. A key
innovation on this film was the use of sub-frame camera shake to accurately
mimic streaking in the live action plates.
